Welcome to our first annual rAVe Best of 2003 Awards. Each year, we will assemble a panel of judges that represent the ProAV distribution channel in the form of integrators and design consultants who I feel are leading edge organizations or people. Every year, I will choose people in integration firms who are with recognizable, respected organizations and serve multiple manufacturers in each product category (not just one) and will choose design consultants who are also well respected and have integrated jobs incorporating multiple product manufacturers in each product category.

One judge will come from a manufacturer who does benefit from the awards but can provide a professional opinion based on some expertise.

Finally, there are no rules for the judges. They are not given a list of products to vote on nor are they given any parameters for picking products. They submitted entries based on what THEY were impressed with in 2003.

For 2003, the judges were:

Kevin Collins of HB Communications - an integration firm
Scott Walker of WaveGuide Consulting - a design consulting firm
Jay Armand of Advanced AV - an integration firm
Kevin Thompson of Whitlock Group - an integration firm
Steve Thorburn of Thorburn Associates - a design consulting firm
Jay Rogina of Spinitar - an integration firm
Ray Soneira of DisplayMate - a designer and manufacturer of high-end test pattern software for displays

And the winners are...

Honorable mention:

iSkia from iMatte

This lightweight and compact device is mounted above or below the projector and modifies the signal sent to the projector. Move back and forth between the projector and your presentation screen without the image being projected on your body - no blinding light shining in your eyes. The iSkia generates a ‘mask ’that corresponds to the shape of the presenters body and blocks the image being projected - thus eliminating the blinding light and distorted graphics projected on the presenter's body.
